Converting Offline Events to Online Prospects

The web has all the sexy tools. You’ve got SEO link building and social networks and chat rooms. Finding prospects online is great. There is also another way that may be more powerful.

Did you ever wonder why politicians, in this hi-tech media age, still go out to shake hands, give speeches to small crowds and kiss babies? Yes, some of these events are televised, but most are not. What’s the point of giving a speech when there is only a roomful of people to hear it? These politicians are wasting their time! They should spend their time chasing TV producers and media outlets!

They do. But smart politicians and marketers know the power of spreading the message in person. It’s called impact. Your message on TV will be seen by people who are also eating dinner or talking on the phone. Your message on the Internet is great but it’s just words on a screen. When your message is delivered in person, you have the opportunity to look into the eyes of your audience members. You have a chance to make them feel your message, instead of only hearing it. If you’re a good speaker, you can move people emotionally.

If you’ve engaged your audience effectively, they will want to hear more from you. They will want to spread your message because they believe in it. So give them a call to action!

I did. And that’s how I built my email list into thousands of prospects.

After each speaking event, I pass around my simple pad of paper with a pen asking for your name and email. The people signing up give me permission to send them my message.

I arrange as many real-life speaking events as possible, speaking to people and listening. I am not shy about promoting my business because I believe in it. I don’t promote to sell; I promote to give. I truly believe that my services are giving something huge. If I didn’t believe that, I would quit and do something easier.

The key is to give your audience something of value. Educate them in an area where they thirst for help. After you’ve proven yourself valuable to them, they will be happy to receive more of this information from you. Then some of those prospects will want to buy your premium products or services.

My premium product is a membership web site of professional dating advice videos. So it makes sense that I go out and speak to groups of people looking for expert assistance in the areas of dating and relationships.

What is you area? If you sell low-cost hand-made jewelry, try creating fun events where audience members learn how to make their own funky jewelry. You teach them techniques, they have a great time and at the end of this free event, you ask for their contact information. Now that they know you, they are much more likely to respond to your future messages showcasing your interesting jewelry.

If you are an internet marketer, offer a free class where you teach beginners. Give them some great tips that they can use right away. If you give a great presentation, they will remember you and when you send out your e-mails with more useful information, you will also let them know about your professional services. Some of your prospects will realize they don’t have the time to learn the field completely and so they will want to hire you. Some will want to learn more than is possible by email and hire you for consulting or private tutoring.

So get out there to give prospects a great experience and in return ask for their email address.
